Our Background
TRG -Mbuso represents the coming together of the Entrepreneurial Team of Mbuso and the Asset Management business of The Robert Group.
The Robert Group (TRG) was formed in 2010 and in 2014 it was awarded it’s own Asset Management licence. TRG therefore has a 10 year track record of Fund Management, and this year (2024) is the 5th year since it registered it’s own Funds. TRG has been actively seeking a BBBEE partner with a view to using it’s expertise and experience to assist with much needed transformation both within the Group and also the Industry as a whole.
In 2021, the stakeholders in Mbuso actively began seeking an in-house Asset Management team that would bring a track record of stability and success to our offering.
In 2022 the parties were introduced to each other and agreed to form TRG-Mbuso asset management, with each of the parties owning equity in the venture.
TRG-Mbuso is 60% Black owned, including 30% black women and combines the track record and expertise of TRG with the entrepreneurial financial service team of Mbuso.

We have a strong focus on upliftment and development, and as we grow, more specialist inhouse capacity will be developed with a focus on developing black male and female asset management talent.
Our Intern Programme has seen a number of Black individuals pass through our ranks, going on to bigger positions in the industry. We currently have 4 new interns, two of them Black Youth.
We are also supporters of the ASISA Academy IFA Internship program, which provides high-potential, black SA graduates with no prior full-time work experience the opportunity to participate in a structured programme with a powerful combination of practical industry knowledge, work-readiness input and work experience within established IFA practices.
